Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni offers the Ultimate Gastronomic Experience

The only luxury hotel on Lake Como to hold a Michelin Star

by Adam & Megan

One of the oldest and most elegant hotels on Lake Como, Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni is the only luxury hotel on the lake to hold a Michelin Star (since 2005).

Headed by Chef Ettore Bocchia and his award-winning team, the two restaurant menus at the hotel are both dedicated to quality produce and ingredients and The Mistral is recognised as a bucket-list gastronomic experience from the founder of Molecular Gastronomy.

The Salone Reale is the most impressive of the hotel’s rooms, with hand-painted, gold-plated high ceilings, vast chandeliers and original wooden chairs by Michael Thonet – inventor of bentwood furniture in the nineteenth-century.

The hotel serves a rich buffet breakfast and a la carte menu. They also take coffee seriously: proudly roasting its own beans on site.

La Goletta is an informal restaurant serving traditional Italian regional cuisine and – in mild weather – with an open terrace overlooking the lake and the villa gardens. Headed by chef Bocchia, a great enthusiast of Mediterranean cuisine, the menu here is light – ranging from local pasta dishes, to fresh fish, the lightest home-made pizzas and more.

La Goletta is one of the best loved restaurants in the beautiful lakeside village of Bellagio.

The Mistral restaurant, widely lauded and holding its Michelin Star since 2005, is also headed by chef Ettore Bocchia. Passionate as all great culinary masters, Bocchia hunts down the highest quality ingredients, and ahead of his time in finding new solutions in gastronomic excellence – with privately-grown tomatoes from Sicily, Alaskan crab from Kamchatka, snails, frogs and veal from Switzerland and access to strictly limited supplies of the world’s only organic and cruelty-free foie gras. With forensic attention to produce, Bocchia’s signature dishes include tortellini filled with peacock breast. On request, theatrical elements of dinner may include deconstructed dishes freshly prepared at your table, including pasta pomodoro or Tiramisu.

Chef Ettore Bocchia’s carefully curated menus include a tasting menu of molecular cuisine – for the ultimate gastronomic experience. The wine cellar has more than 400 international labels, offering rare and exclusive vintages found only in this restaurant.

The Mistral’s position on the lake is enviable, offering unrivalled views (the glass front retracts fully into the floor, opening the restaurant to the summer evening). Unforgettable sunsets and starry nights are the backdrop to Bocchia’s meals and, in the evenings, dinner is accompanied by live music.

For a pre-dinner aperitif, The Terrazza Darsena is the perfect peaceful spot, set above the lake and offers the best views across Lake Como to catch the sunset. After dinner, guests can enjoy a signature cocktail or a vintage bottle of wine at the historic Verri’s Bar, the American bar which offers a 19th-century feel and even a smoking room. For food options throughout the day, the Pool & Beach Bar is situated by the swimming pool, offering home-made ice cream and signature cocktails to be enjoyed by the private beach.

Nightly rates at Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni start from €495 for a Classic Room with Park View. For more information please
