Leading escorted travel and river cruise company, Tauck, has now opened bookings on several of its 2020 land tour and river cruise itineraries, giving guests the chance to experience the Passion Play, a dramatic re-creation of Jesus Christ’s last days on Earth, in the Bavarian town of Oberammergau.
Performed once every ten years, as each new decade begins, the Passion Play is a major event in the town’s calendar and a European cultural highlight of each decade. The play brings together over 2,000 local Oberammergau residents to perform a play first produced nearly four centuries ago.
In 2020, Tauck will include the Passion Play, or Passionsspiele as it is known locally, on two of its European land tours and two European river cruises: the Romantic Germany and The Ultimate Alps & Dolomites (land tours), and The Blue Danube and The Romantic Rhine (river cruises). All guests visiting Oberammergau with Tauck will enjoy premier seating in the best available section of the Passion Play theatre, private tours of must-see sights and attractions in the area, and other exclusive cultural experiences.
Interest in Oberammergau for 2020 is said to be running well ahead of 2000 and 2010, and officials in the Bavarian town expect approximately 450,000 attendees to view the 2020 Passionsspiele.
